La Nacional Restaurant & Tapas Bar

La Nacional Restaurant provides traditional homemade Spanish food. Classic tapas preparations anchor the menu. The patatas bravas, literally translated as fierce potatoes, have all the crispness--and addictiveness--of fast food fries. Among the entrees, they offer codfish in paprika & olive oil, an exceptional paella delivered in its skillet on an earthenware tray & loaded with mussels, clams, cockles, peas, & chicken chunks with saffron rice. They also have an extensive Spanish wine list and great sangria. Discounts are extended to club members of La Nacional ... a good reason to consider becoming a member.

In the late 1800's, this location was the sight of a busy "Horse and Carrige" Taxi Service which drew lots of traffic to the busy corner of West 4th and Charles Streets. In 1923,it was followed by an Irish Tavern, "Talk of the Town". In 1941, the Sevilla Restaurant first opened its doors to the West Village. The restaurant still whispers hints of the old Irish tavern, with its murals adorning the walls, original bar and wood-cut ceilings all remaining intact. As you enter this fine restaurant, you very likely will be welcomed by one of the owners. The food and service in this charming restaurant are excellent. The Sevilla offers an outstanding paella, hearty authentic Galician soup (Caldo Gallego, uhmmm uhmmm), splendid veal dishes among them, my favorite, veal in almond sauce.
El Faro Restaurant
823 Greenwich St.
New York, NY 10014
Tel. (212) 929-8210
Owner: Andres and Mark Lugris

This small restaurant in New York's West Village was established in 1927. El Faro has become just more than a restaurant to its customers, many have grown up inside El Faro and it is a part of their family, a place that is as comfortable to them as the house they grew up in. El Faro is the same as it was when their parents came here on their first date. There are few things that do not change in over thirty years, but El Faro has survived the test of time and has provided much happiness for three generations of families.

In my opinion, this is among the best Spanish cuisine you can find in Newark and probably the New Jersey and New York area. Their customers come from near and far. Located in the
Ironbound section of Newark, this award winning restaurant is owned by a Galician and its cuisine is prepared with the freshest seafood of Spain. Their extensive wine cellars offer over 450 aged and vintage wines and has the rarest collections of Spanish wines in the United States. It boasts an elegant dining room, bar and the service as well as food is first-rate. It has an ample parking lot with valet parking.
