Families are attracted to the Tinton Falls schools. Public school students in kindergarten to 8th grade can attend the three schools in the Tinton Falls School District. Students in 9th through 12th grades can attend Monmouth Regional High School also located in Tinton Falls. The borough was formed as New Shrewsbury on August 15, 1950 after breaking away from Shrewsbury Township. It was renamed "Tinton Falls" in 1975, to avoid postal errors. The name came from Lewis Morris's plantation, Tinton Manor. The borough is home to the highest waterfall on New Jersey's coastal plain.
